German-Italian conductor Andrea Sanguineti is Music Director of the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Aalto Theatre in Essen, where he is currently attracting great attention with productions such as Parsifal, Tosca, Aida and La forza del destino.

Andrea Sanguineti is in great demand as an opera conductor at major European opera houses, including Zurich Opera (Verdi Gala, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Don Giovanni, Manon Lescaut), the Cologne Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, Merry Widow), the Leipzig Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, Tosca, Cenerentola), the Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg (Stiffelio, Norma), the Opéra de Nice (Traviata) and the Grand Théatre de Genève (Maria Stuarda). He also made his debut at the Sydney Opera in 2023 with Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux and at the Savonlinna Festival in 2024 with Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

In addition to his success in the opera world, Andrea Sanguineti is characterised by a series of critically acclaimed performances on the podium of the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra with masterpieces by Mahler, Bruckner, Strauss and Tchaikovsky, among others. He also conducts major orchestras such as the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Amsterdam and the Orchestra Națională Radio Bucharest.

Andrea Sanguineti regularly collaborates with renowned artists such as Frank Peter Zimmermann, Anna Vinnitskaya, Maria Agresta, Alexey Vinogradov, Jonathan Tetelman, Benjamin Bernheim, Lisette Oropesa, Saioa Hernández, Kathrin Dehaes and Rolando Villazón.

Trained in Vienna and Milan, the conductor began his career first as Maestro Preparatore and later as Kapellmeister at the Hanover State Opera. In 2011, he was appointed First Kapellmeister at the Mainfranken Theatre in Würzburg and shortly afterwards Music Director of the Gerhart-Hauptmann Theatre in Görlitz-Zittau, where he worked until 2018.
